    Member Clean Up II

Post by Marrillian on Sat Sep 01, 2012 1:33 am

Just get rid of all accounts that have 0 posts and have not logged in for 2+ weeks.

Everyone should agree that those accounts are useless. Razz

Agreed, I did this with SDA as well... And if they come back, they can always just make another account, if they really want to stay. Very Happy

I disagree. Why should we delete the accounts?

    1) It adds more members and looks better. Despite your past argument that 'I'd rather have 5 members and them all be active, instead of 100 and only 5 be active'. I mean, to me it looks nicer. It doesn't look like this is a new academy AND it doesn't look like some kind of cult where only 5 people log on.

2)We can always send out emails to everyone that has an account on here... Can't do that if their deleted...

    3) Does any of the major academies do that? Just out of curiosity? Last time I checked DA or even NDA doesn't. Even though their ratio from registered and online is way out of wack.

Did you even read this one? I am not asking for getting rid of people that have show signs of life... Only those who just made an account and have done nothing else...

It's still basically the same thing though. It's like a genocide but with only 15 people. lol

I just don't think there's a reason to do this because we don't have enough things to do on DAL that will keep people interested. I liked the premise of this forum when I joined, but I joined because of a friend. Even so, I haven't actually participated in any of the events or even dueled anyone from here yet. A big reason for that is my laziness to look for people to duel, but even so, there's just not a whole lot to do yet. I've stuck around because I think there's a good group of people here, but even the active members aren't around all day posting/doing things. When we have a situation where we have a good number of people actively on all the time and participating in events and such, that's when it's time to do a member clean-up. Right now though, I think it's hard to keep interest for new people so they don't come around.

@ Mar, I really don't see why this is so important to you anyways, compared to other things that could be done at the academy...

Because the other things so far haven't worked, and we are just building up more and more inactive users...

Let me try and explain this issue from a different angle for you Marr. Your heart is in the right place; you want the forums to be active, you want the active members to feel like they make a difference and they're a big part of the community, these are the things you want to accomplish with a member clean up. You also feel like the inactive members don't contribute anything so why should we keep them around if they don't even want to take 10 minutes out of their lives every few weeks to come visit?

Well, the thing is, while those members haven't done anything for us, we haven't done anything for them. We don't have the tools to keep people coming back here unless they really like what they see. Our job is to make new people want to come and want to stay. We haven't been doing our job, so the inactive users haven't been doing theirs. Cleaning up the members now isn't going to fix the problem of large inactivity. When you do something like this, it's to fix a problem. Inactivity is a problem, but the root isn't 0 post users. The root of our inactivity problem is being unable to keep people coming back.

Basically, the reason I and a few others keep disagreeing with your idea is because even if the inactive members are cleaned up, it doesn't fix anything. New members will come and join the forum, those members won't feel like there's enough to do here and they'll become inactive 0 post accounts as well. In another few months we'll need to do another clean-up and the problem still won't be addressed. How often do you come on the forums and see highlighted forums because there are new posts in them? Maybe a few threads a day get posted in a couple times a day by a couple users. That is nowhere near active enough to say that we need a member purge. So basically, yes, inactivity is a problem, but deleting accounts won't solve the problem, so there's no reason to do it right now.

Yea my heart is in the right place!!!

Just because of your amazing (have no idea what else to call it) speech, I will drop this for now. The fact is, I pursued this so much because I believed that no one understood my reason for preforming a clean up. And no one had really presented a convincing counter-argument. But you have broken it done, and really presented your reasoning greatly.

Edit: what I don't get is how there are 0 post members that have gotten rank... even without the 5 post rule, they should have posted a dorm test request before getting their tests... shame on their testers *stare*

I'm glad I was able to help you see it from the other side. Just to let you know, I would absolutely support the idea if we had the forums active all the time. I think a lot of people would. But since we don't, that's the reason I'm not supporting it right now.
